Testimonial 1(From work)
.....opportunity to work with her closely in a supervisory role for the duration she was with us.
When given a task, Xernieve will complete it within the time frame given and the work produced will be either exemplary or at least up to standard, most importantly, she keeps to deadlines very well. Her specialisation is in English (trained and educated in this field) therefore she is fully equipped to teach that subject. She would make her English lessons interesting yet fruitful. Students were taught the basic skills and they were constantly challenged to think critically about issues (beyond the classroom) that were being brought up in class.
She is also trained in Business studies and had attended all the courses (includes all core and optional courses available in teacher’s network) and had gone on work exposure programmes (NTUC Xtra – Jurong and Mandarin Oriental Hotel). She is one who goes beyond the call of duty working weekends if the occasion arises. An example would be: When she wanted to qualify her students for work attachment opportunities at Four Seasons Hotel, she had to sacrifice her weekends for training and working
She would take the initiative to sign up for courses (in content knowledge, pedagogy, application) that are relevant to her teaching and development so that she has more to offer the students, clocking at least 100 training hours for every academic year she was with us.
When she was with us, she had the opportunity to head a CCA, which was floorball. She had no background knowledge of that sport but that did not stop her from getting involved in the CCA. She would work closely with the coach and team; she would address all the needed administrative work and liaise with vendors on purchases so that the coach can focus on the team; she would make constructive suggestions (many of which were taken up by the coach) and she would put in a strict system for the students, coach and teachers working in that CCA to follow so as to propel the team forward; she would budget in a frugal manner and keep a tight rein on the finances. For the years she was in charge of the CCA (2007, 2008), they achieved top 4 at national level.
Our school’s and students’ well-being is important to her therefore she brought in the financial literacy programme as she knew it would benefit the students and the programme has stayed on ever since, she had recently made the bold suggestion of changing the examination format for lower secondary level and that suggestion was taken up and implemented. When clashes of interest surfaces, she would do her utmost to ensure that the interest of the school is placed first way above friends and vendors.
Overall, Xernieve is an energetic and responsible officer who takes on all tasks and responsibilities very seriously. She is a capable officer who exudes great initiative and will not hesitate to explore different avenues and approaches to see the fruition of responsibilities assigned to her.
On the last note: She resigned on her accord and we have extended the invitation for her to join us as a relief/adjunct teacher.
Testimonial 2 (From work)
As her Supervisor..., I have had the opportunity to work with her on a few ongoing programmes as well as a school wide project.
She has shown herself to be very capable and efficient in the organisation and execution of both major and minor events.
She is an excellent team player and contributes constructively during department meetings. Her most valued talent is her speed in getting things done. Given that her ideas are innovative and sensible, she was to be considered for the second echelon position within the department.
She is also highly structured and organised with her paperwork and was the backbone of our school wide carnival during its planning and execution phrases.
Ms. Toh possesses a rare combination of structured and yet innovative thinking, making her extremely suitable for decidedly exceptional high energy environments that she would thrive in.
Testimonial 3 (From a friend)
During this time, it has been an honour in maintaining a close friendship with her. Throughout our friendship, she has exhibited a great number of redeeming qualities which I truly believe attributes to the success that she has come to know in her current life. Some of these qualities include: an ability to develop and maintain wonderful rapports with those she knows and meets; values honesty, integrity, and loyalty above all else; is avidly predisposed to taking the initiative in all that she does; is uniquely punctual and holds great respect for other's opinions. Also, she is a great communicator who is unyielding in her approach to make the most of any situation, even during times that maybe stressful and testing.
Testimonial 4 (From a friend)
We met briefly through the Diploma in Education programme and again, through the Master of Arts (Applied Linguistics) programme. During this time, I have had ample opportunities to collaborate with her for group assignments in various group settings.
Xernieve strikes me as one who is considerate, conscientious, meticulous, industrious, dependable and extremely competent. She is always well-prepared for classes by doing her readings beforehand. She gives quality constructive criticisms when necessary. She is extremely resourceful and helpful and would go the extra mile to help any classmate. Patience is also another one of her strengths.
